Customer facing functions at depth. Support, customer success, account management and sales development into US markets have decades of institutional experience here, and the English is written as well as spoken.
Finance and accounting. A large certified accountant population with extensive exposure to US reporting expectations.
Engineering at mid level in volume, particularly where the problems are defined and the constraint is capacity rather than architecture.
Compliance, governance and operations, which are frequently the functions a US software company finds hardest to hire domestically at a price that works.

What US companies actually get from hiring in the Philippines
In short
US companies gain the deepest English speaking professional pool available at this cost level, strong supply in customer facing and finance functions, and a mature route to employing without a US entity presence in the Philippines. The cost is a 12 to 16 hour time gap, which is a design problem rather than an inconvenience.
The US is the market where the Philippines offers the most and demands the most in return. Both halves are worth stating plainly.
What is genuinely strong for US companies
The cost picture, honestly
Savings against the same role hired in the US can reach up to 70 percent fully loaded, depending on role and seniority.
The gap is widest at mid level and narrows at senior specialist level, where candidates are recruited internationally and priced against global demand.
Total cost is salary plus roughly 11 to 16 percent in statutory employer contributions and 13th month pay, falling as a percentage as salary rises because SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG all cap out. Night differential of at least 10 percent applies for hours worked between 10pm and 6am, which for US coverage is often most of the shift.

The time gap, which is the whole trade
Manila is 12 to 13 hours ahead of US eastern time and 15 to 16 ahead of Pacific. There is no arrangement where both sides keep standard hours.
Three workable designs. An early Manila start reaching the US east coast evening, with limited overlap and no night work. A Manila evening shift covering the US business day properly, which is night work and carries the statutory premium. Or asynchronous working with a short fixed overlap window, which is where most US companies eventually land.
The failure mode is not choosing. A team that is nominally available whenever needed ends up available at 11pm every night, and that arrangement does not survive to year 2.

What US companies most often get wrong
Treating contractor status as the simple option. Philippine law assesses employment by substance, applying a four fold test with control as the decisive factor. A full time team member on contractor paperwork carries retroactive exposure to contributions, 13th month pay and security of tenure.
Assuming at-will employment. It does not exist here. Dismissal requires a just or authorised cause and the correct process, which changes how probation and documentation should be handled from the start.
Underestimating onboarding across the gap. Context that transfers by proximity locally has to be supplied deliberately, and a new hire who is stuck will often keep working rather than escalate.
Hiring on cost alone. The saving is real and it is the weakest reason to do this. Companies that hire here for price under-invest in management and get the outcome that implies.

Where a different market is the better answer
If the role requires several hours of live collaboration every US working day and the work cannot be restructured, Latin America is the more sensible first look and the arithmetic should not be fought.
If the requirement is jurisdiction specific US regulatory expertise, that does not exist here in volume and should not be searched for.
Everything else is a question of design rather than of feasibility.
