Each figure is the mid point of a range, annual and fully loaded. Philippine figures add 11 to 16 percent for statutory employer contributions. Indian figures add 17 percent for provident fund and gratuity. Home market figures are indicative and vary by city, sector and company. New Zealand tracks close to Australia. Fully loaded, the saving reaches up to 70 percent. A lower number does not buy a lesser person. The gap is currency and cost of living, not capability.

Common questions

Hiring and paying in the Philippines

How much does it cost to hire a software developer in the Philippines?
A mid level developer with 3 to 5 years of experience typically sits between $1,200 and $2,000 gross per month when you are competing with other international companies for the same person. Senior and specialist bands sit above that, and the full guide covers 22 roles across software, cybersecurity, data and AI, sales, marketing, customer success and operations.
What is the all in cost of employing someone in the Philippines?
Add 11 to 16 percent to gross salary for statutory employer contributions, which covers SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG and 13th month pay. The percentage falls as salary rises, because the three contributions cap out while 13th month stays proportional.
Is 13th month pay compulsory?
Yes. It is one twelfth of annual basic salary, required by Presidential Decree 851, and payable by 24 December. It is not a bonus and it is not discretionary.
Do I need a local entity to hire in the Philippines?
Not necessarily. A Philippine corporation with foreign ownership generally requires USD 200,000 in paid up capital and takes up to 5 months to stand up. The alternative is to employ through an employer of record that already holds a Philippine entity, so the person is employed compliantly from day one. A widely used rule of thumb puts the crossover at around 10 to 15 people in country.
Are Philippine salaries lower because the talent is less experienced?
No. The gap is currency and cost of living, not capability. Housing, transport, schooling and food cost a fraction of what they cost in London, Sydney or San Francisco. At these numbers you are near the top of the local market, competing for people domestic employers cannot afford to keep.
Is there a hidden cost on top of Philippine salaries?
Statutory employer cost in the Philippines is 11 to 16 percent, which is lower than the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore, so there is no hidden employment premium sitting on top of salary. On salary itself, the gap against your home market depends heavily on the city and sector you compare with, so we would rather run that comparison for your specific role than publish a headline percentage.
